Wike Imposes Curfew At All Land Borders In Rivers

Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has described as barbaric Sunday’s deadly attack where nine persons, including two police officers, were killed.

Wike said there was no justification for the attack against innocent security personnel on legitimate duty of protecting life and property in the state.

The governor has urged security agencies in the state to be more vigilant, and has vowed to fish out the perpetrators of the attack.

In a similar incident in Imo State, police spokesperson in the state Nnamdi Omoni has confirmed Sunday’s deadly attack where some security officers were killed along the Omagwa/Isiokpo/Elele Owerri road.

He said the commissioner of police in rivers has launched an investigation into the attack.

Also in another attack on Sunday, Boko Haram insurgents launched a fresh attack on Mainok, headquarters of Kaga local government area of Borno capital, Maiduguri.

Houses were reportedly burnt, and shops looted after the attackers made their way into the town along Maiduguri-Damaturu road, through the vast landmass and the desert from where the ISWAP faction operates.

The insurgents were also said to have ridden on 14 motorcycles and headed straight to the military base in Mainok town.

Military sources claimed the attack was repelled by the Nigerian army.

Ghanaians Blames Power Firm For Nationwide Blackout

The Transmission Company of Nigeria says power has been restored to national grid after a system collapse left most of the nation in the dark on Wednesday.

The company said on Thursday electricity has been restored across the entire grid through which distribution companies offtake electricity they deliver to consumers nationwide.

TCN’s public affairs general manager Ndidi Mbah, says experts were already making efforts to fully restore electricity on the grid.

Army Denies Boko Haram’s Eid Donations Report

The Nigerian Army has denied reports that Boko Haram insurgents distributed Eid donations to communities in the northern states of Borno and Yobe.

Reports alleged the terrorist group had donated food and money to residents in attempts to woo them to support its activities.

The army says the reports were “propaganda,” and that it had conducted investigations and established the reports were untrue.

The army said in a statement “our team of eagle-eyed analysts went further to critically examine the pictures attached to this malicious publication and discovered that they were simply stage-managed in a typical terrorists-styled propaganda.

Nigeria continues to experience a wave of insecurity occasioned by attacks and kidnappings carried out by Boko Haram militants.
