Just after 17 months in charge, Jose Mourinho has on Monday been sacked by Tottenham in just six days before the Carabao Cup final clash with Manchester City.
Making the announcement, the club in a brief statement on their website stated “the club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.”
Chairman Daniel Levy said “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club.
He said “Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.”
In November 2019, the Portuguese manager replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs manager and guided the club to sixth in the Premier League last season.
But in 2021, Spurs have endured a disastrous year, slipping down the Premier League at an alarming speed while also crashing out of the Europa League
58-year-old Mourinho whose last in charge was a 2-2 league draw at Everton on Friday has been under increasing pressure.
Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason, who has been working with the club’s academy, will take first-team training on Monday.
Chelsea Beat Real Madrid To Set Up All-English Champions League Final Against Manchester City
Chelsea defeat Real Madrid 2 – 0 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, 3-1 on aggregate to set-up all English UCL final against Manchester City in Istanbul.
With goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount, Chelsea beat the Spanish side 2-0 in west London after a 1-1 draw in the away leg.
On 29 May, Chelsea will face Manchester City in the Champions League final in Istanbul after convincingly overcoming a fading Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel’s hosts were grateful to goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for two fine first-half saves from Karim Benzema but they were able to build on the 1-1 draw they achieved in Madrid when Timo Werner headed in from almost on the goal-line in the 28th minute after Kai Havertz had lofted a finish on to the bar.
Mahrez Fires City To First Champions League Final
Riyad Mahrez scored twice to complete Manchester City’s journey to a first-ever UEFA Champions League final with a 2-0 victory, eliminating Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on aggregate in the semifinals on Tuesday.
City’s manger Pep Guardiola, who won the elusive title twice with Spanish giants Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, has made it to the final for the first time with Manchester City after he fell short three times with Bayern Munich and has taken until his fifth season at City to even reach the semifinals.
City will be favourites for the final after an outstanding campaign which has included seven straight wins in this competition, the first English club to achieve that feat.
The celebrations at the final whistle told the story as one psychological barrier was cleared, with one more hurdle left to negotiate before they can claim the holy grail.
Manchester City now stand 90 minutes away from glory and the trophy that has been in their sights since the day the club was transformed in September 2008.
Madagascar Suspend Coach Nicolas Dupuis
Madagascar have announced the suspension of national team coach Nicolas Dupuis just under a month before the start of their group phase campaign in the 2022 world cup qualifiers. In a statement, the Malagasy Football Federation said Dupuis would not be paid during the suspension.
The statement accused the 53-year-old Frenchman of “engagement with several other entities without prior authorization from the federation.” He is also charged with interference in the selection process of the equipment supplier for the national team.
