Uruguay’s players’ union has called on the Football Association to overturn striker Edinson Cavani’s three-match ban.
The Manchester United striker was fined £100,000 and banned for an Instagram post containing a Spanish word that has been found offensive.
Luis Suarez and Diego Godin have both shared a statement by their national players’ union that calls the punishment “discriminatory.”
Uruguay’s football association also wants the ban reviewed.
Professional and amateur players from the South American country described the FA’s sanctioning of Cavani as an act “against the culture and way of life of the Uruguayan people”.

A South Korean court has sentenced a former top speedskating coach to more than 10 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting an Olympic champion, Shim Suk-Hee
Shim Suk-Hee, a star short track speedskater with four Olympic medals including two golds, accused former coach Cho Jae-Beom of rape in 2019.
He was indicted after she said she endured dozens of incidents of sexual abuse over the course of more than three years, starting in 2014 when she was 17.
Sokratis Leaves Arsenal For Free As Club Agrees To Terminate Contract
Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has left the club after agreeing to terminate his contract with the club.
The 32-year-old defender has not made a premier league appearance since March last year and has not featured in a matchday squad in any competition in 2020-2021.
Sokratis is now free to speak to other clubs. Sevilla, Real Betis and Genoa have all shown interest.
He describes his time at arsenal as one of the best of his career.
Sokratis, whose deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, joined arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in July 2018.
He made 69 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners.
