Katsina State governor Aminu Masari has on Thursday night confirmed the release of the abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara area of the state.
Masari disclosed to a news media said the boys were at Tsafe, Zamfara State, and would be transported to Kankara on Friday.
Also confirming the development, official spokesperson to the President, Garba Shehu said in a tweet on Thursday night “President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed release of kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.
He further described the safe return of the schoolboys “as a big relief to their families, the entire country and international community.”
However, it is still unclear how many were released amid continuing uncertainty about how many were abducted from the school last Friday in Kankara.
The Islamist extremist group Boko Haram has said it was behind the kidnapping of hundreds of school pupils.
On Thursday, the insurgent released a video which shows scores of young boys, all covered in dust within a forest area.
Leader of the terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau had said the students were abducted to promote Islam and downplay the importance of western education.
