#EndSARS: Lagos Govt Invited Us To Restore Order, Says Army

Published

on

Exactly seven days after the Lekki shootings, the Nigerian Army now says Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu invited soldiers to the protest scene at Lekki Toll Gate.

The army admitted this after several denials by both the military and Lagos State governor over the involvement of the military in the shooting and killing of protesters.

Acting director, army public relations, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Osoba Olaniyi says the state government called in the military to restore order.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier blamed “forces beyond his control” for the attack and insisted he had no authority over military engagements.

The governor reacted to the army statement in a tweet saying “we have to be very careful in making a careless statement. It is a very sensitive issue.”

The minister said although zoning is not in the party’s constitution, party leaders had agreed on the zoning when the party was being formed.

Fashola has also advised party members to support the Mala Buni-led caretaker, extra-ordinary, convention committee, which he described as a product of necessity.

He says the caretaker committee must be respected because it is a by-product of the leadership crisis that engulfed the party.
