Four Bundesliga Stars Set For Eagles Debut

Four new defenders from the German Bundesliga, Akpoguma, Felix Agu, Felix Uduokai and Jordan Torunarigha of Nigerian descent, are set to join the Nigerian senior national team next month when the Super Eagles face Ivory Coast and Tunisia in international friendlies.

Officials say this will bring more competition to the defence and help it to be more formidable.

Akpoguma represented Germany from U-16 to U-21 level.  He also captained the German U-20 side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup.  He is yet to join the Nigerian set-up despite opening the door to a switch since 2018.

Agu, Uduokhai and Touraringha have also represented Germany at junior levels

Djokovic Wins Italian Open To Claim Record 36th Masters Title

World’s tennis number one, Novak Djokovic has won a record 36th masters title by beating Diego Schwartzman in the Italian Open.

The Serbian, playing in his first tournament since being disqualified from this month’s US Open, won 7-5, 6-3 in the final to get a slot in next week’s French Open.

33 year-old Djokovic drew level with Rafael Nadal last month on the all-time list of masters winners with his Western & Southern Open title.

IPL Cricket Set To Kick Off In UAE Amid India COVID-19 Crisis

Indian premier league starts on Saturday, but the twenty20 tournament is expected to be a welcome relief to cricket fans during the coronavirus pandemic.

The short-form extravaganza normally starts in March but, along with other major international sporting events, was postponed as countries went into virus lockdowns.

It was then moved to the United Arab Emirates as cases rose in India.

All the eight teams have been in strict, bio-secure “bubbles” since landing in the UAE.

There will be no gala opening ceremony for the world’s richest t20 league, and the games will be played behind closed doors at three venues including Dubai and Sharjah.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has been handed a two-match ban following his dismissal against Olympique Marseille last weekend.

Neymar was expelled from the match for slapping the I’OM defender on the back of the head.

Neymar then accused his opponent of directing racial slurs at him during their exchange, taking to social media to call for action to be taken against the Spanish defender.
