Shehu Sani Begs The US To Support Nigeria Against Al-Qaeda Invasion

Kaduna former lawmaker, senator Shehu Sani has picked up on America’s alert to Nigerian authorities on Wednesday that the country is being infiltrated by the al-Qaeda and Islamic State in Syria, ISIS, terrorist groups.  Sani has called on the federal government to take seriously the alert.  Senator Sani also urged the U.S. to support Nigeria to end the atrocious and cruel activities of the terrorist groups in the country.

Commander of the U.S. special operations command, Africa, Dagyin Anderson gave the alert and said the terrorist outfits are also expanding to other parts of West Africa.

Many Nigerians on social media have expressed the fear that another fight on another front, in the midst of a major war against Boko Haram, could worsen insecurity in the country.

Buhari Blames Obasanjo, Yar'adua, Jonathan For 'Near Destruction Of Nigeria'

As Nigeria celebrates its Independence Day anniversary, president Muhammadu Buhari in an early morning nationwide broadcast acknowledged the economic and security challenges currently facing the country.

In the broadcast message, the president lauded his leadership, stating his administration has achieved much with few resources.

Buhari also criticized past administrations, including former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, late Umar Yaradua and Goodluck Jonathan, who were in charge of the country from 1999 to 2015.  He said they did not accomplish what his regime has done with scarce resources.

President Buhari also said, for Nigeria to succeed, a responsible government must face realities and take tough decisions.

The federal government, along with state governments, observed low-key celebrations.  Many demonstrators, who violated the no parade rules, were arrested in some states, including Lagos.

Nigeria Records 201 New COVID-19 Cases

Nigeria’s total number of COVID-19 cases has now reached fifty-eight thousand eight hundred forty-eight.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reports two hundred and one new infections were recorded in thirteen states on Wednesday.

More than 50,000 of those infected have recovered and have been discharged, but there are still 7,000 active cases in the country.

So far, one death was recorded from the virus on Wednesday.  Eleven hundred and twelve fatalities have been registered as a result of the pandemic.

Lagos chopped seventy-seven of the new cases, Rivers 37, Plateau 25, FCT 13, Kaduna and Ogun states each had 12 cases.

El Rufai Heads Ekiti APC Reconciliation Committee

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has selected the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El Rufai, to head a reconciliation committee that has been set up to resolve the crisis facing the Ekiti State chapter of the party.

The crisis rocking the party in Ekiti State has worsened and has led to the suspension of some members of the party.  The suspensions were effected when they refused to withdraw court cases filed against the party.

The party has required its members to observe caution and to support ongoing efforts to amicably resolve the internal crisis.
