Ooni Of Ife Calls For Scrapping Of Big Brother Naija Television Reality Show

The Ooni of Ife has joined his voice with those calling for the scrapping of Big Brother Naija television reality show.  The monarch says the show should be taken off the air because it, “misrepresents Nigerian youths.”

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi made the recommendation while hosting members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, in his palace in Ile Ife on Wednesday on the occasion of the International youth day.  He called for the production of a new, more beneficial reality television program that would be more realistic about the Nigerian Youth than what BBNaija portrays.

The Ooni said “let’s wear our thinking caps and begin to act like the real future leaders that we are.”

He compared figures between the 27 million votes cast by Nigerians during the last general election against the more than a hundred seventy million votes during last year’s BBNaija reality show.  He said this misrepresents the goodness and integrity of the Nigerian youths.

Lagos PDP Endorses Makinde As South-West Leader

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has endorsed Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, as the south west leader of the party.

This endorsement was stamped by the Lagos deputy chairperson of the party, Waliu Hassan who says Makinde has worked diligently in the interest of the party.

But Ekiti former governor, Ayo Fayose, has always called governor Makinde a baby politician, not yet ripe for that huge role.

FG Shuts NIMC Headquarters

The federal government has ordered an immediate closure of the headquarters of the national identity management commission in Abuja.

Minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami, who gave the order, also directed the national identity management commission, NIMC, to open 20 locations in the FCT.

NIMC spokesman, Kayode Adegoke, announced 20 centres were reactivated within the FCT to ease the enrolment process.

The federal government also says the deadlines for the registration of all subscriber identification modules with valid national identity numbers were still in force.

Imo, Kaduna Postpone Schools Resumption

Despite the federal government’s directive on school reopening, Imo State government has postponed by one week, resumption of schools in the state because of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

State commissioner for education, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, says the postponement became necessary to curb a further spread of the rising cases in some urban areas of Owerri west and north.

Ikegwuoha says the government has a team of personnel that would ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 protocol when schools reopen in the state.

Elsewhere, in Kaduna State, the government has closed public and private schools till further notice.

Permanent secretary, ministry of education, Phoebe Yayi disclosed in a statement on Monday, that only Kaduna polytechnic and the national open university were exempted because of their examination timetable.

Yayi said no definite date has been set for schools to reopen.
