Ballon d'Or 2020 Scrapped Because Of COVID-19

For the first time in the 64-year history of the Ballon d’Or, the award ceremony will not be awarded this year due to conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers of France Football announced that the outbreak wreaked havoc on the football calendar and hence there will be no edition in 2020, because it turns out, after thoughtful consideration, that all the conditions are not met.

Pascal Ferre, the editor of the magazine said it would be unfair to vote on the world’s best player when some leagues, including the French Ligue 1, cancelled their seasons early.

He added. “We believe that such a singular year cannot… be treated as an ordinary year,”

“Two months (January and February), out of the eleven generally required to form an opinion and decide who should lift the trophies, represent far too little to gauge and judge, without forgetting that the other games were played –- or will be played –- in unusual conditions (behind closed doors, with five replacements, Champions League’s Final 8 played in a single game).”

Djokovic Wins Italian Open To Claim Record 36th Masters Title

World’s tennis number one, Novak Djokovic has won a record 36th masters title by beating Diego Schwartzman in the Italian Open.

The Serbian, playing in his first tournament since being disqualified from this month’s US Open, won 7-5, 6-3 in the final to get a slot in next week’s French Open.

Indian premier league starts on Saturday, but the twenty20 tournament is expected to be a welcome relief to cricket fans during the coronavirus pandemic.

The short-form extravaganza normally starts in March but, along with other major international sporting events, was postponed as countries went into virus lockdowns.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has been handed a two-match ban following his dismissal against Olympique Marseille last weekend.

Neymar was expelled from the match for slapping the I’OM defender on the back of the head.
