Politicians Harassing Me Over 774,000 Jobs, Says Keyamo

Minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo has accused some political leaders of attempting to blackmail him into surrendering the innovative public works job creation programme meant to create nearly 800,000 unskilled jobs for Nigerians.

Keyamo says only president Buhari can stop him from piloting the programme.

The minister was speaking at the inauguration of state selection committees of the federal government’s public works programme.

He says any chairman who fails to adhere to the guidelines on the operation of the scheme would be removed.

The minister says certain persons who had been entrusted with such programmes in the past, had surrendered them to political leaders as a form of patronage.

Keyamo says the public works programme is for all Nigerians and the federal government has structured it to be bipartisan to reach every Nigerian, irrespective of political leanings.

Nigeria Records 575 New Cases Of Covid-19

Nigeria on Monday confirmed 575 new cases of the Coronavirus, bringing the total in the country to 29,286.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet stated that Lagos State recorded 123 new cases with the Federal Capital Territory having 100 new cases

The health agency added that 654 persons have so far died from the virus with 11,828 patients discharged.

Osun Retirees Protest Non-Payment Of Entitlements Since 2015

Retirees in Osun State under a state contributory pension scheme are protesting non-payment of their pension and gratuity for five years now.

The retirees demonstrated their displeasure with different placards, disrupted vehicular movement at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

They say the state government had refused to pay their 30 months half-salary arrears (2016 till date), non-payment of gratuities (2015 till date) and non-payment of their monthly pensions since 2015.

Leader of the protests Niyi Adefare urged the Ife monarch to assist the helpless and some homeless senior citizens to get their entitlements.

He disclosed that despite their sickness and old age, the state government had neglected them.

Nigeria Records 790 New Cases Of Covid-19, 603 Deaths

Nigeria’s total coronavirus infections have risen to 26,484 on Wednesday after the Nigeria Center for Disease Control announced 790 new cases.  The center also said more than ten thousand patients had been discharged and the death toll increased from 590 a day earlier to 603.

Delta State recorded the highest number of cases with a total of 166, followed closely by Lagos with 120 cases. 19 other states recorded new cases of coronavirus including the Federal Capital Territory.
