APC CRISIS: Buhari Urges Members To Aim For Internal Resolutions

The emergency meeting of the national executive committee of the All Progressives Congress has taken place in Abuja with president Muhammadu Buhari in attendance. The meeting was convened by Victor Giadom, one of the two new factionalized acting national chairmen of the party, but one recognized by the president.

All was not well as the Abiola Ajimobi-led National Working Committee of the party rejected an invitation to participate in the meeting.  The group released a statement that president Buhari was wrongly advised.  But the president said the law was on Giadom’s side.

At the meeting held by video conferencing, the president advised members of the governing party, APC, to withdraw all pending litigations against one another, and aim for internal resolutions.  He warned that festering disagreements could destroy the party, and that what the party had gained so far could be reversed if conflicts are allowed to overshadow the primary objective of service to the people.

The president said shifting loyalty within the party, and inconsistency in leadership, have led to mockery of the party.  He said it is clear the party is starting to self-destruct.

After adopting all recommendations by the president, the National Working Committee, led by Adams Oshiomhole, was dissolved.  A caretaker extra-ordinary convention committee and Yobe State governor, Mai-Mala Buni, was appointed as its chairman.  Buni was immediately sworn in by Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Nigeria Records 575 New Cases Of Covid-19

Nigeria on Monday confirmed 575 new cases of the Coronavirus, bringing the total in the country to 29,286.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet stated that Lagos State recorded 123 new cases with the Federal Capital Territory having 100 new cases

The health agency added that 654 persons have so far died from the virus with 11,828 patients discharged.

Osun Retirees Protest Non-Payment Of Entitlements Since 2015

Retirees in Osun State under a state contributory pension scheme are protesting non-payment of their pension and gratuity for five years now.

The retirees demonstrated their displeasure with different placards, disrupted vehicular movement at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

They say the state government had refused to pay their 30 months half-salary arrears (2016 till date), non-payment of gratuities (2015 till date) and non-payment of their monthly pensions since 2015.

Leader of the protests Niyi Adefare urged the Ife monarch to assist the helpless and some homeless senior citizens to get their entitlements.

He disclosed that despite their sickness and old age, the state government had neglected them.

Nigeria Records 790 New Cases Of Covid-19, 603 Deaths

Nigeria’s total coronavirus infections have risen to 26,484 on Wednesday after the Nigeria Center for Disease Control announced 790 new cases.  The center also said more than ten thousand patients had been discharged and the death toll increased from 590 a day earlier to 603.

Delta State recorded the highest number of cases with a total of 166, followed closely by Lagos with 120 cases. 19 other states recorded new cases of coronavirus including the Federal Capital Territory.
