Adamawa Govt Imposes Curfew On Crisis-Ridden Lamurde Communities

The violence that erupted in the Lamurde local government area of Adamawa State on Thursday has prompted the state government to impose a twenty-four-hour curfew on the warring communities.

A statement, signed by governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the communities involved were Tigno Dutse, Sabon Layi and Bagashi.

He said the governor finds the breach of peace unacceptable and that security agencies will be out to enforce the curfew.

Governor Fintiri has visited the area on Friday evening, but the Hausa and Chobo people were reported to have continued attacks on each other after the governor left.

It has been reported that violence continued when police and military personnel who were present shifted attention.  As a result, scores among the warring people were reported to have died by Sunday while dozens more were wounded.

Buhari Suspends Magu As EFCC Acting Chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday suspended the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.

According to PUNCH newspaper, Buhari had earlier set up a presidential panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami to probe the EFCC boss following a petition by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Department of State Service (DSS).

Magu reportedly spent the night in a police cell at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Headquarters in Abuja.

In the report, the newspaper stated that the anel grilled Magu for hours on Monday before he was taken into police custody and a source privy to the investigation confirmed Magu’s suspension.

Nigeria Records 575 New Cases Of Covid-19

Nigeria on Monday confirmed 575 new cases of the Coronavirus, bringing the total in the country to 29,286.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet stated that Lagos State recorded 123 new cases with the Federal Capital Territory having 100 new cases

The health agency added that 654 persons have so far died from the virus with 11,828 patients discharged.

Osun Retirees Protest Non-Payment Of Entitlements Since 2015

Retirees in Osun State under a state contributory pension scheme are protesting non-payment of their pension and gratuity for five years now.

The retirees demonstrated their displeasure with different placards, disrupted vehicular movement at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

They say the state government had refused to pay their 30 months half-salary arrears (2016 till date), non-payment of gratuities (2015 till date) and non-payment of their monthly pensions since 2015.

Leader of the protests Niyi Adefare urged the Ife monarch to assist the helpless and some homeless senior citizens to get their entitlements.

He disclosed that despite their sickness and old age, the state government had neglected them.
