South Africa Mourns Iconic Cultural Ambassador, Joseph Shabalala

Joseph Shabalala, founder of the multi-Grammy-award-winning group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, died on Tuesday and is being mourned all over South Africa and around the world.  He was 78.

Shabalala’s group is renowned for its acapella singing style that has made it South Africa’s most recognized music group of global repute.  Shabalala founded the group in 1964.  It became world famous and successfully collaborated with many big industry names like Paul Simon on “Graceland” album in 1986.

The group was on tour in the united states when its leader died at home.  Ladysmith Black Mambazo says it celebrates and honors its founder’s kind heart and extraordinary life.  It says Shabalala will live forever through his music and the millions with whom he had come in contact.

Laycon Wins 2020 BBNaija Lockdown Edition

The Big Brother Naija lockdown edition has finally come to an end as Olamilekan Agbeleshe popularly known as Laycon emerged winner of the reality show.

Laycon, the ‘Fierce’ crooner who seemed like a subject of ridicule at the start of the Season 5 edition of the show scaled all hurdles to become the winner beating Dorathy, Nengi, Neo and Vee who are the top five finalist.

During the Sunday live eviction show, the host of the BBN, Ebuka Uchendu announced Laycon as the winner of the show, having garnered 60% of the total vote, becoming the first ever housemate to win with such a margin.

Laycon goes home with prizes worth N85m beating 19 other housemates to be crowned the winner of this year’s reality television show.

To thrill the audience during the live finale, Davido, Mayorkun, Fireboy DML and Rema all gave a scintillating performance.

Funke Akindele, Husband Sentenced To 14 Days Community Service, Fined N100,000 Each

Popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello a.k.a JJC Skillz has on Monday been sentenced to 14 days community service each by a Magistrate court sitting in Lagos.

Earlier, Funke and the husband were arraigned before Ogba Magistrate Court 1, Lagos State and they pleaded guilty for breaching the Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations, 2020 (the Regulations) which prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for persons found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

Having been found guilty as charged, they were sentenced as follows:

The defendants are to pay a fine of 100,000 each, sentenced to 14 days community service, three hours per day, excluding Saturday and Sunday; each Defender shall visit 10 important public places within Lagos State to educate the public on the consequences of non compliance with the restriction order; and they must submit the names and phone numbers of every person who attended the party.

They shall be placed on isolation by the State Government to determine their COVID-19 status. Failure to abide by the above directives shall attract more severe punishments.

Nigerians on Sunday called for the actress’ arrest for disobeying the State and the Nigerian government orders by flouting social distancing regulation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Also, musician Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley who also attended the party is now in police custody and will also be charged to Court for violating the restriction orders.

Uganda's Bobi Wine Releases Song To Fight Coronavirus Pandemic

As African countries continue to take measures to battle the spread of Covid-19 and to create awareness, the entertainment industry is not left out in doing same. Ugandan musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine has just released a song to raise awareness about the coronavirus pandemic.

Uganda has so far registered 14 cases of COVID-19 and most of them had traveled recently, authorities in Uganda confirmed five new cases of COVID-19, among them an eight-month-old baby and two Chinese nationals who left their quarantine.

All of its patients are reported to be in stable condition.

Legislator and musician Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, teamed up with fellow musician Nubian Li to highlight the importance of personal hygiene in the fight against the disease.

Wine said in the song “the bad news is that everyone is a potential victim. But the good news is that everyone is a potential solution.”

The 38-year-old said added “the Coronavirus is sweeping over mankind, everybody must be alert. It’s a global pandemic we cannot afford to ignore you better watch for yourself. Yes man, this is Bobi Wine himself. Watch out for the coronavirus, you can be a very important in stopping the spread of the coronavirus.”

In a bid to stem the spread of the virus, Uganda imposed new travel restrictions and banned public gatherings.
