Nike To Unveil New Super Eagles Kits In New York

The Nigerian Football Federation and sportswear giants Nike are ready to unveil Super Eagles new jerseys ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations match-day three home qualifying encounter against Sierra Leone.

Nike extended their deal with the NFF in 2018 and are eager to design another set of jerseys for the three-time African champions.

NFF president Amaju Pinnick says the new jerseys will be unveiled in London and Nigeria after same has been done in New York.

John Mikel Obi Set To Join Brazilian Club Botafogo

Super Eagles former captain, Mikel Obi, is on the verge of joining Brazilian club, Botafogo.

Obi became a free agent after terminating his contract with Turkish Club, Trabzonspor, in march because of his coronavirus comments on Instagram.

The 32-year-old has been negotiating for a few days with the rio club, and there is optimism within the board that a deal could soon be made for the Nigerian.

Wimbledon Cancelled Due To Coronavirus

Wimbledon has on Wednesday been cancelled for the first time since World War Two because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The tournament is one of the centrepieces of the British summer sporting calendar and was due to be played between 29 June and 12 July.

As the coronavirus pandemic struck another blue-riband sports event off the calendar and wiped out the entire tennis grasscourt season until at least 13 July.

The decision was reached after an emergency talks between the various stakeholders over the last few days.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) announced that it was impossible for the grasscourt Grand Slam, scheduled for June 29-July 12, to take place.

In a statement by AELTC which reads “it is with great regret that the main board of the All England Club and the committee of management of the championships have today decided that The Championships 2020 will be canceled due to public health concerns linked to the coronavirus epidemic.”

It added “the 134th Championships will instead be staged from June 28 to July 11, 2021.”

Wimbledon is the latest major summer sporting event to be called off, with Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics postponed for 12 months.

English premier league side Arsenal have joined the race for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

Arsenal have joined other premier league clubs Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United, who are also reportedly interested in signing the 21-year-old.

Arsenal are looking at using him to replace captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whose contract expires next year.

If he joins arsenal, Osimhen will be the third Super Eagles player after Nwankwo Kanu and Alex Iwobi to play for the club.

Osimhen has 18 goals in 38 appearances for French side, Lille this season.

To avoid losing Aubameyang on a free transfer, Arsenal might be forced to sell him as he has courted interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

Arsenal are also interested in Colombian midfielder, James Rodriguez from Real Madrid but could face competition from Premier League rivals Everton and Wolves.
