Ondo Assembly Resumes For Amotekun Bill, Alake Rallies Support

Speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has directed majority leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, and minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu, to formulate and present constitutional amendment bills to encourage outfits like Amotekun.

Gbajabiamila says the establishment of Amotekun and other local security outfits that already quietly exist in other parts of the country are a desperate response to what he called the vile manifestations of insecurity troubling Nigerians.

The lawmaker says the lot of Nigerians is being reshaped by activities of bandits which have resulted in insecurity in the country.  He said these groups are destroying communities and that kidnappers are profiting while insurgents are working to turn our world to an image of a discredited religious setup.

Meanwhile, inspector-general of police, Mohammed Adamu and six south west governors are meeting over operation Amotekun.

Covid-19: DELSUTH Doctors Lament Shortage Of Face Masks, Others

The Association of Resident Doctors in Delta State University Teaching Hospital has raised the alarm over inadequate face masks and lack of life insurance or compensatory measures for staff that manage the dreaded covid-19 disease.

The association said in a statement it is unhappy with the management’s delay in closing all outpatient clinics in the face of the covid-19 pandemic.  It says this would be a precautionary measure to forestall exposure of multiple medical personnel to the disease.

The group says there is a shortage of face masks needed as precautionary protocols against the disease.

The resident doctors want DELSUTH management to shut down all outpatient clinics until covid-19 cases have declined in Nigeria.

COVID-19: ASUP Suspends Planned Indefinite Strike

Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its planned indefinite strike which was to have started today Monday.

The union’s two week notice expired on Friday.

ASUP’s president, Anderson Ezeibe said in a statement the lecturers’ decision to suspend the strike was because of the current covid-19 emergency.

ASUP says the intended strike was in protest against the government’s inability to honor an agreement the two parties reached ten years ago.

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde Tests Negative To Coronavirus

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has tested negative to coronavirus.  The governor revealed this on his Twitter handle late Sunday night.

The governor had tested positive for coronavirus a week ago, a few days after his party, PDP, staged a rally in his state.

Makinde says this is his second test revealing he is negative.

He said “I am deeply moved by your prayers and support throughout this period. I am so thankful.” “This evening, I received my second negative test result for COVID-19.”

The governor added in his appreciation message “I especially thank Prof Temitope Alonge, who acted in my stead as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force.”
