Court Sentences Three To Death By Hanging In Osun For Bank Robbery

Osun State high court has sentenced to death by handing, three persons who were involved in a bank robbery there three years ago.

In February 2016, Nuhu Jimoh, Ndubuisi David and Aderibigbe Oluwaseun, were reported to have been armed and to have coordinated the simultaneous robbery attack on First Bank, Union Bank and Skye Bank which were located on the same street in Ikirun.

Three response units, Iragbiji police division, Ikirun police patrol team, and special anti-robbery squad, were present at the scene and exchanged fire with the armed robbers.  Police said some of the armed robbers were killed while others ran away.  The three that are sentenced to death at the only ones apprehended.  Guns recovered from them were forfeited to the Nigeria police, and money recovered was forfeited to Osun State government.

Osun Retirees Protest Non-Payment Of Entitlements Since 2015

Retirees in Osun State under a state contributory pension scheme are protesting non-payment of their pension and gratuity for five years now.

The retirees demonstrated their displeasure with different placards, disrupted vehicular movement at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

They say the state government had refused to pay their 30 months half-salary arrears (2016 till date), non-payment of gratuities (2015 till date) and non-payment of their monthly pensions since 2015.

Leader of the protests Niyi Adefare urged the Ife monarch to assist the helpless and some homeless senior citizens to get their entitlements.

He disclosed that despite their sickness and old age, the state government had neglected them.

Nigeria Records 790 New Cases Of Covid-19, 603 Deaths

Nigeria’s total coronavirus infections have risen to 26,484 on Wednesday after the Nigeria Center for Disease Control announced 790 new cases.  The center also said more than ten thousand patients had been discharged and the death toll increased from 590 a day earlier to 603.

Delta State recorded the highest number of cases with a total of 166, followed closely by Lagos with 120 cases. 19 other states recorded new cases of coronavirus including the Federal Capital Territory.

Breaking: FG Increases Petrol Pump Price

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has on Wednesday increased the pump price of petrol to N140.80/143.80 per litre from N121.50 per litre.

In a circular signed by PPPRA Executive Secretary, Abdulkadir Saudi announcing the new retail price band to marketers “after a review of the prevailing market fundamentals in the month of June and considering marketers’ realistic operating costs, as much as practicable, we wish to advise a new PMS pump price band of N140.80 – 143.80/litre for the month of July, 2020.”

About a month ago, fuel marketers said they are really worried about a further reduction in oil prices because they are not involved in the decision-making process after the PPPRA announced another reduction in pump price to a hundred twenty-one naira per litre.
