Former wife of Zimbabwe’s vice-president, Marry Mubaiwa is appearing in court today Monday on six counts bordering on fraud and money laundering. Vice-president Constantino Chiwenga`s now estranged wife allegedly attempted to solemnize her marriage to Chiwenga without his consent. Marry was accused of forging a marriage certificate without Chiwenga’s knowledge while he was sick.

She is also facing charges of exporting foreign currency in breach of the exchange control act, and concealing transactions involving proceeds of crime, in violation of the money laundering and proceeds of crime act.

Marry was arrested on Saturday and is being held at a police station in the capital, Harare. The couple was customarily married after Chiwenga paid a bride price to her parents in 2011.

Zambia has asked the United States to recall its ambassador Daniel Foote, following his criticism of the jailing of two men for being in a gay relationship.

The diplomat said last month, he was “horrified when a judge sentenced the men to 15 years in prison. He called on the government to review the case.

Zambian president Edgar Lungu said he did not want people like Foote in his country. Lungu said he was waiting for a response from Washington on the ambassador’s recall. Homosexual relationships are illegal in Zambia.

Ministry of environment and tourism in Namibia is reporting that poaching had dropped to 41 rhinos killed this year so far.  The figure during the same period last year was nearly 72.

The world’s second largest white rhino population, after South Africa, resides in Namibia.

An N.G.O., save the rhino, says poaching to feed mostly east Asian markets has vacillated since peaking with 95 rhinos in 2015.  It fell to sixty the next year and 36 in 2017.

Namibia has been cracking down on poachers and is also lobbying against the rules that govern the global trade in endangered species. Other countries have rejected proposals to relax restrictions on legal hunting and exporting of white rhinos.

More than 300 persons were charged with poaching offenses between 2014 and last year.  All were Africans, except for 17 Chinese.
