AFN Technical Director Sacked, Secretary Removed 

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria`s (AFN) technical director, Sunday Adeleye has been sacked for his alleged role in the negligence and administrative lapses that brought international embarrassment to Nigeria at the 2019 world athletics championship in Doha.

The sports ministry says it would announce a new technical director soon.

AFN secretary general, Elijah Ademu was also sacked.

Qatar To Play UAE In Doha Amid Signs Of Thaw In Gulf Dispute

Asian champions and hosts Qatar are drawn against the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Iraq in Group “A” at the 24th gulf cup to be held in Doha later this month.

Defending champions Oman are in Group B where they will be joined by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain in the group stages.

The rescheduled draw took place in Doha on Thursday, after Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain confirmed they would take part in this year’s tournament.  They had reversed an earlier decision to boycott the event in line with their more than two-year-old land, air and sea blockade against Qatar.

The previous Arabian gulf cup, two years ago, was originally scheduled to be held in Qatar, but was moved to Kuwait because of the blockade.

The tournament will take place at the Khalifa International Stadium, a 40,000 capacity air-conditioned venue in the Qatari capital, Doha.

This is the fourth time Qatar will host the regional event.

Oman won its second title in 2017 after beating the UAE on penalties in the final.

David Abraham: Frankfurt Captain Banned For Barging Opposition Manager

Eintracht Frankfurt captain David Abraham has been handed a seven-week suspension and a twenty-seven and a half thousand dollars fine, for barging into an opposition team’s manager.

The defender knocked Freiburg coach Christian Streich to the ground during his side’s 1-0 defeat in the German Bundesliga.

After deeming that Abraham was guilty of “assault on the opponent,” the German Football Association’s (DFB) banned the 33-year-old from November the 10th until end of December.

The punishment means Abraham won’t feature in the Bundesliga again this year.

Frankfurt announced they intend to appeal the decision.

Former minister of sports, Bolaji Abdullahi says the restoration of the governing system of the National Sports Commission (NSC) remains the best way for managing sports in Nigeria.
