A Hero's Welcome For The AFCON 2019 Champions In Algeria

Hundreds of thousands of fans welcomed Algeria’s victorious Africa Cup of Nations team back home on Saturday for a parade in the capital city Algiers.

Algeria beat Senegal 1-0 in Cairo stadium on Friday to win their first title since 1990.

The coach and the players were greeted by Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui at the Airport of Algiers as they were taken on a bus was decorated with two stars to mark a second Cup of Nations triumph.

The Desert Foxes were waving to a large crowd of fans and taking selfies to commemorate the historic moment as the fans exploded in joy and fireworks were shot and klaxons were played loudly.

“We are proud of you” were written on the side of the bus in Arabic and Amazigh, the North African country’s two official languages.

The bus made a tour to the main streets of Algiers before heading up to El Mouradia suburb in upper Algiers, where they were congratulated by interim President Abdelkader Bensalah with several high ranking political and military officials.

President of the Algerian football federation, Kheireddine Zetchi said the victory “will very certainly breathe new life into the country.”

Danish Cup Final Suspended After Fans Fail To Socially Distance

The Danish Cup final was suspended for 14 minutes as a group of ultras ignored social distancing rules.

Aalborg and Sonderjyske were both given 725 tickets each for fans at the final at the neutral Esbjerg stadium, so long as they sat one metres apart.

Aalborg lost 2-nil to Sonderjyske with Anders Jacobsen scoring twice against his old club.

It is the first major trophy in Sonderjyske’s history.

Africa Cup Of Nations Postponed Until 2022

Executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the next edition of Africa Cup of Nations to 2022 to which Cameroon retains hosting rights.

With the 2019-2020 season for the champions league and confederation cup already at the semi-final stage, CAF has announced Cameroon and Morocco will respectively host the semi-final and final of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) has been cancelled.
